More Art Wankery
SAME CALL SHOP, MUNICH: To quickly fill you in on our last day in Venice. We rose early and headed out to the Schloss Palace, the summer palace of the Hapsburgs. It was impressive but after you've seen the Hermitage the lustre on everything else seems dulled. It had a beautiful garden though, and with more brilliant sunshine, it looked absolutely stunning.
After the palace we visited the Belvedere which houses an art gallery that includes most of Gustave Klimt's most famous paintings, including The Kiss and the Bloch portraits, as well as some interesting paintings by Munch. The real highlight however was a room of paintings by Egon Schiele, an artist I'd never heard of before. The downside, however, was that there was a major Schiele retrospective on across town and Schiele museum in Cesky Krumlov. Neither of which we visited since my knowledge of Schiele was bascially zero.

hi liam,
i was directed to your virtual bread crumb trail in december by a mutual friend, but i inadvertedly destroyed the cell upon which i filed that information over new years. sorry. however, i was able to relearn said address and am now here. hurrah!
am enjoying what i've read so far. prague sounds almost identical to catriona and my experience mid last year, except that it was peak season and the tourist factor was multiplied by a billion. ryan air has a lot to answer for. we were, fortunately, sensible enough to avoid the glow in the dark puppet show.
germany now, eh? heading to berlin? we nearly lost our minds to berlin (in a good way). if you're heading there, i've definately got some stops you might want to find time for. take care and have fun. am muchas jealous. it's very hot here and the cricket is all that preserves out tenuous states of mind at this time of year. - neal
